3. 1-2 Punch

The growing trend around the NFL is for teams to have the balance of a 1-2 punch at the running back position. One player tends to emerge as a legitimate star, but the other provides an invaluable measure of balance.

If the New York Giants were to draft Christian McCaffrey, then it would create quite the 1-2 punch with current running back Paul Perkins.

The prime example of this being true is the Atlanta Falcons, which won 11 games and made the Super Bowl during the most recent season. Devonta Freeman was the established star at running back, but Tevin Coleman was the crucial complement.

Freeman amassed 1,541 yards and 13 touchdowns from scrimmage, while Coleman recorded a combined 941 and 11 touchdowns on offense.

With a combination of McCaffrey and Perkins, the Giants could potentially breed similar results. Coleman and Freeman combined for 2,482 total yards and 24 touchdowns, and although that’s a gaudy expectation, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility.

Beyond the numbers, McCaffrey and Perkins would complement one another well as versatile playmakers who can fill a multitude of roles.
