The NY Giants have struggled over the last few seasons at wide receiver and it’s possible they make a surprise pick in Round 1 of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Giants signed Kenny Golladay to a mega-contract and drafted Kadarius Toney in round one last year but the team still struggled at the wide receiver position.

Golladay was extremely underwhelming as he dealt with injuries and poor play. He had just one game over 100 yards and failed to score a touchdown. Toney looked to be worth a first-round pick when he played but he was often kept off the field by various injuries.

He was also ejected from a game against Dallas for throwing a punch. After skipping voluntary minicamp this spring Toney’s name has popped up in trade rumors. Since then Toney has reported and the Giants sound like they are keen on keeping him around.

The NY Giants need a premier wide receiver such as Garrett Wilson

It hasn’t been talked about a lot but some believe the Giants might use a first-round pick on a wide receiver. Specifically Garrett Wilson the star from Ohio State. Wilson had 70 catches, 1,058 yards, and 12 touchdowns last season as a Junior. He’s an extremely explosive player who can help turn the wide receiver core around. Many believe the Giants will select an offensive lineman at 5 and it’s possible they stay on the offensive side of the ball.

With the future of quarterback Daniel Jones up in the air, it’s possible the new regime will look to surround him with the most talented group if they truly feel he can be salvaged. The Giants could go into the season behind a much better offensive line with Wilson, Toney, Golladay and of course Saquon Barkley and Sterling Shepard who return to the team.

It’s an interesting thought as to what Wilson could bring to the Giants especially if Golladay and Barkley can bounce back and Toney can stay healthy. At this moment the Giants still are probably more likely to go offensive line and defensive player. A lot can happen on draft night so it’s certainly possible they go wide reviver but it’s probably less likely at this time.
