1. Michigan DT Christopher Hinton

The Giants drafted a defensive tackle on Day 3 in Arizona State product D.J. Davidson. While it appears there is depth at the position, it would not be a surprise to see Davidson in a camp battle with an UDFA for a roster spot. That’s where Michigan DT Christopher Hinton comes into play.

Hinton was a former 5-star prospect out of high school, who was not able to live up to that hype at Michigan. Even so, many still had him ranked as a potential Day 3 pick, including profootballnetwork.com, which had him as the ninth-ranked defensive tackle in the class – a list Davidson did not even feature on.

While many will think of the Michigan edge pieces of Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo when thinking of that defensive unit, Hinton was a presence on the inside for the Wolverines. While he didn’t return standout production, the talent he has is undeniable and if he can put it together, he certainly appears to be a talent who should have been drafted.

Of course, a lot still has to go right for the former 5-star athlete. An interesting factor in his favor in a potential battle is that Davidson will be 25 during the 2022 season, while Hinton will be just 21. His age suggests he still could have some room to develop – a trait which is great for an UDFA trying to land a roster spot.

The interior of the defensive line already has Justin Ellis, David Moa, Davidson and potentially Dexter Lawrence, depending on how NY plans to use him moving forward. While it may not be possible for all of the players listed to make this Giants roster, Hinton likely presents the best chance for an UDFA to fill a spot on this defensive line in 2022. He’s certainly one to watch during camp.
