NFL insider reveals why Brian Daboll isn’t playing Kenny Golladay much
People are not going to stop talking about what’s going on with NY Giants wide receiver Kenny Golladay. After posting two receptions in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans, Golladay wasn’t able to bounce back the way people were hoping for going up against the Carolina Panthers in Week 2.
Golladay was out on the field for only two snaps, which is something no one would have been able to predict heading into the action. Right now, David Sills is ahead of Golladay in terms of production. Again, no one would have been able to guess that. So, why the lack of playing time for the $72 million man?
According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, his sources are telling him Daboll is simply going with the guys he thinks will help his team win. On top of that, the same source said the Giants aren’t going to give Golladay extra run just because he’s got a monster contract. Nope, he’s got to earn that PT.
NY Giants WR Kenny Golladay is having another season to forget
"“It’s a bad contract, and they inherited Kenny,” a league source told Wilson. “Brian and Joe aren’t going to just play a guy because he makes a lot of money. He’s not their guy. They’re playing their guys. It is what it is.”"
This makes sense and it also coincides with what Daboll had to say following the Week 2 win over the Panthers. In his presser, Daboll said it doesn’t matter if you’re the highest-paid guy on the field or the lowest-paid player: he’s going to rock with the guys who work the hardest and give the G-Men the best shot of recording a victory.
With that said, Golladay was brought in last offseason to be the No. 1 guy for the Giants offense. To have him behind wideouts like Sills and Richie James is hard to believe. At the end of the day, though, Daboll is the head coach of this team and it’s his show. He makes the calls and so far, he has NY with a 2-0 record.
The hope is that Golladay will be able to live up to his contract sooner than later, but there isn’t a lot of optimism surrounding that thought. These first two weeks have spoken volumes about the kind of belief the coaching staff has in Golladay. Straight up, it’s not much.
