The pads are finally about to go on. The New York Giants are counting down the days to training camp, with players set to arrive on Tuesday, July 28th.
Big Blue has experienced plenty of changes this offseason, leaving a few undefined spots on the depth chart. We have six predictions heading into training camp that could dramatically shift the outlook of the Giants' 2026 season.

Malachi Fields wins a starting job
Big Blue's pecking order at receiver is almost impossible to parse, especially with Malik Nabers still sidelined in his recovery from the knee injury that ended his 2025 campaign. But if offseason investment gives any clues, Fields has an edge in the battle to win a starting job.
The Giants traded up for the third-round selection, risking future draft capital to do so. Fields is a bit unrefined, but he could hold down the "X" receiver role that New York needs to fill.
Damon Bankston steals a roster spot
An undrafted free agent at running back, Bankston is a long shot to make the roster. But his impact as a pass catcher and kick returner could make him stand out in training camp. He brings more dynamism to the table than Devin Singletary, Eric Gray, or Dante Miller. Is there a role for the rookie as a do-it-all backup?
Starting kicker battle is over before it starts
We may finally be nearing the end of the kicker battle that has dragged on for almost a year. Rookie Dominic Zvada has become the clear frontrunner over Ben Sauls after a strong performance in minicamp. Unless he fumbles the competition early in training camp, Zvada should run away with the starting spot.
JuJu Smith-Schuster doesn't make the roster
Smith-Schuster carries some name value, but the Giants' wide receiver room is too crowded to keep every offseason addition at the position. The 29-year-old's skill set overlaps with other receivers on the roster, while players behind him, like Braxton Berrios, can fill more unique roles.
New York only kept six receivers on the initial roster in 2025. Don't be surprised if Smith-Schuster headlines training camp cuts.
Giants only keep 3 edge rushers
There's a bit of a caveat here. Rookie off-ball linebackers Arvell Reese and Jack Kelly can both line up as edge rushers when needed. Along with Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, and Kayvon Thibodeaux, they can fill out a complete group at the position.
Khalid Kareem, Trace Ford, and Caleb Murphy might be on the way out.
Greg Newsome II holds onto CB2 role
Newsome is currently set to battle for the second outside cornerback spot with rookie Colton Hood and former first-round pick Deonte Banks. His one-year, $8 million contract doesn't instill much confidence in his position within the team, but Newsome brings valuable experience to the table. He's much stronger in zone coverage than he is in man coverage, making him a good fit in Dennard Wilson's scheme.
