Brian Daboll was asked about his tenure as head coach of the New York Giants while being introduced as the Tennessee Titans' offensive coordinator. He chose to take the high road, though it's highly doubtful that'd be the case if you injected him with truth serum.
Somewhere probably not too deep down inside, Daboll's chomping at the bit to exact his revenge on the Giants. Fortunately for him, he won't have to wait very long, considering the Titans are set to travel to East Rutherford in 2026.
However, recent intel suggests Daboll may be plotting to hit New York where it hurts well before returning to MetLife Stadium as a visitor. The Titans have reportedly been linked to Giants wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson, who's set to become an unrestricted free agent on March 11.
Titans' potential pursuit of WR Wan'Dale Robinson has ex-Giants HC Brian Daboll's fingerprints all over it
NBC Sports' Matthew Berry revealed that the Titans are among the clubs searching for an "impact" wideout via the open market this offseason. Robinson was among the names mentioned, which "makes a ton of sense" when considering his connection to Daboll.
It's bad enough that Daboll brought Giants ex-offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo to Tennessee. Suddenly, the 2022 Coach of the Year could be lining up a move to recruit another valued member of the Giants to the Titans. Talk about a bizarre turn of events.
There's no need to relitigate the Giants' well-chornicled decision to fire Daboll roughly five months ago; that's water under the bridge at this point. Yet, his presence has continued to hover over the team in more ways than one. Successfully luring Robinson to the Titans would be the latest example of him twisting the knife even further.
Armed with the most cap space in the the NFL heading into the new league year, the Titans can certainly meet Robinson's price tag. They also have a glaring need for pass-catching help. Moreover, and perhaps most notably, his familiarity with Daboll's system is the cherry on top.
Robinson became the focal point of the Giants' passing attack this season once star wideout Malik Nabers suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in Week 4. The 2022 second-round pick posted a career-high 92 receptions en route to the his first career 1,000-plus yard (1,014) campaign.
