The writing appears to be on the wall for the Russell Wilson is the New York Giants starting quarterback experiment. At least, that’s what fans can surmise from Brian Daboll’s latest comments during his Monday afternoon press conference when asked about the Jaxson Dart QB situation. “We’re evaluating everything,” he said.

After Big Blue’s 22-9 home opener debacle against the Kansas City Chiefs, Dabs was noncommittal on a potential quarterback change. Wilson just had arguably his worst game as a Giant, finishing 18-of-32 for 160 yards and two interceptions. His late fourth-quarter disaster in the red zone really did him in. Fans were chanting “We want Dart” as the season already spiraled out of control in Week 3.

The head coach’s Monday comments were a noticeable shift from his Sunday night postgame stance: “Yeah, you guys have asked me about players after games,” he said. “I’m not gonna answer that.” It seems like he’s finally starting to come around to the idea of starting Dart. It’d be a move many fans are clamoring for... but might regret if he follows through.

Brian Daboll left the door open on Monday for a Jaxson Dart-sized QB change

The G-Men officially have a quarterback controversy. There’s no denying it. And the more the team throws Wilson out there and the more he struggles, the worse this situation is going to look from the outside.

Fans can kick and scream all they want for the first‑round rookie to take over, but someone has to say the truth: throwing the potential franchise quarterback into the fray is risky when there’s no guarantee it’ll work out.

This team is nowhere close to competing in 2025. That’s been clear from day one. It’s all but guaranteed to be another lost season, so it’s understandable to want the rookie in. However, there needs to be some level of responsibility from the staff. Throwing Dart to the wolves now would be organizational malpractice. He’s just not ready. And that’s obvious because if the coaches thought he was, he’d already be starting.

Making decisions based on fan reactions almost always ends horribly — that's why they're not part of the front office. If Daboll pulls the plug on Wilson, he might just be pulling the plug on his own tenure. That’d be his final Hail Mary, relying on a 22‑year‑old to save his job. That’s terrible decision‑making. And coming from a team already full of them, it hurts that we’re here again.

The schedule is still a major factor. Four of the Giants’ next six opponents are undefeated, including the undefeated Chargers in Week 4.

Even so, Daboll’s comment Monday was interesting. Until that presser, he’d been adamant: Wilson is the starter. This is the first time real cracks are showing. After Sunday night’s trainwreck, Dart might be next in line. If Dabs is serious about “evaluating everything,” this moment could be his exit cue.

Because when the home opener feels like Groundhog Day of failure, only a change at the top might save what little is left of credibility.
