Even though Brian Daboll is no longer the head coach of the New York Giants, signing ex-Giants has been the theme of his offseason as the offensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans. And I think there's reason to believe he's not done gutting the rejects from John Harbaugh's revamped roster.
He's already helped Tennessee sign Wan'Dale Robinson, Austin Schlottmann, Daniel Bellinger, and Cor'Dale Flott, so what's one more Giant gonna do? And it feels like he could be setting his sights on another player he once coached with Big Blue and would instantly fill a major need for the Titans.
While pinpointing the biggest need each NFL team needs to fill following the 2026 NFL Draft, ESPN's Aaron Schatz labeled right guard as the position to watch for Daboll's squad. And luckily, Dabes and Carmen Bricillo coached a player many deem to be one of the best available free agent right guards.
It feels like a matter of time before Brian Dabol brings Greg Van Roten to Tennessee
The man in question is Greg Van Roten. The G-Men drafted Francis Mauigoa with the 10th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and he'll immediately be the starting right guard until he kicks out to right tackle. Also, John Harbaugh brought Daniel Faalele with him to New York, so I expect Dabes and Bricillo to bring GVR to Nashville with them.
Schatz noted that the Titans have options at right guard, but none to feel very confident in. Cordell Volson missed all of 2025 due to injury, 2025 fifth-round pick Jackson Slater didn't play much as a rookie, and they didn't address the offensive line until they drafted Fernando Carmona in Round 5.
"The Titans have plenty of bodies to throw at this problem, but none of them are established starters," Schatz wrote. "Former Bengals starter Cordell Volson missed all of last season with a shoulder injury, but before that, he ranked 61st out of 64 qualifying guards in pass block win rate in 2024 .Jackson Slater, a 2025 fifth-round pick, didn't start a game as a rookie, and the Titans didn't select an offensive lineman in this year's draft until Fernando Carmona in the fifth round."
During the pre-draft process, guard was a position the Titans (and Giants) were both consistently linked to adding. But the 50-year-old's OC old team has the more reliable long-term fix. Between Carmona and Slater, Tennessee could benefit from a right guard in Van Roten who can instantly start.
The 36-year-old spent the last three seasons of his career in Bricillo's system, and the last two seasons with him and Daboll in New York. So if the Titans are looking to continue preaching continuity, they have a chance to sign some more scraps the Giants cast aside in Van Roten.
