The training wheels are coming off for NY Giants quarterback and first-round pick Jaxson Dart. He has waited long enough, as Brian Daboll has made the tough but necessary call to bench Russell Wilson and give the keys to the offense to the youngster.

Mike Kafka is facing the most pressure for Jaxson Dart's 1st NFL start

Think Dart is fired up for this moment? First, it was revealed that Dart and Daboll spoke for around 10 hours on Tuesday to get him caught up to speed in preparation for the Chargers. Then, Daboll said that Dart called him late Thursday night so the two could go over some red-zone planning. While Daboll loved his enthusiasm, he also told the rookie to get some sleep. What's this, Dart embracing Wilson's no time to sleep mentality? We love that:

Jaxson Dart is doing everything he can to be ready for his 1st NY Giants start

It's hard to see that update from Daboll courtesy of Art Stapleton and not get overly excited. This is career start No. 1 for Dart and he wants to make sure he puts the Giants in the best position possible to record the team's first win of the season.

The Giants have been close to glory this year, particularly in the overtime loss to Dallas in Arlington. However, there's a reason Wilson has been benched and Dart is getting the nod. This offense needs electric play injected into it and the hope is that Dart can spark some life into the unit.

It's not all on him, however, as offensive coordinator Mike Kafka needs to do his job too and mix things up with his play-calling. As we've said before, things there have been pretty vanilla early on this campaign, which simply can't continue to be the case for the G-Men.

Dart has been a proven winner everywhere he's been leading up to this point. He was a 4-star stud in high school and an SEC gamer at Ole Miss. Now, it's time for him to showcase to everyone in the NFC East what he can do with the ball in his hands. Will he and Malik Nabers showcase great chemistry early on?

That's what a lot of people are hoping turns out to be the case. Come Sunday, MetLife Stadium is going to be packed with Big Blue Nation showering Dart with a ton of love. Everyone can't wait to see what this kid will accomplish in his starting debut, with countless people praying to the Football Gods a surprise win will get posted over Justin Herbert and LA.
