Undoubtedly, the New York Giants will most likely go in the quarterback direction in the upcoming NFL Draft. After opting not to select Daniel Jones' replacement in last year’s draft—despite several generational talents being available—the 2024 season did not pan out well for Big Blue.
Even though New York used its first-round pick on wide receiver Malik Nabers, who ended up having a sensational rookie season, you have to wonder what could’ve been after Jones' tenure with the Giants ended both poorly and abruptly. The G-Men opted to bench and later release Jones in November, less than two years after signing him to a $160 million contract, which pretty much derailed their season. The Giants ended up starting both Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito and even gave some playing time to longtime backup Tim Boyle.
With the Giants' season turning into a disaster, a recent Bleacher Report article ranking the NFL's quarterbacks from the past season makes it crystal clear what the Giants must do when they're on the clock this spring with the third overall pick.
The Giants must address their QB room in the 2025 Draft
With the Super Bowl matchup set, Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report ranked all of the league's starting quarterbacks from the 2024 regular season and placed Lock at 30th. Once Jones was let go, Lock became the Giants' primary starter after DeVito’s limited playing time proved that last year’s three-game win streak was nothing more than a fluke. However, Lock wasn't much better either.
New York signed the former Denver Bronco and Seattle Seahawk this past offseason to a one-year, $5 million deal, and once he got the bulk of the playing time toward the end of the season, he showed that the Giants have no choice but to find their next franchise QB this spring.
The 28-year-old completed just 59% of his passes with six touchdowns to five interceptions and threw for 1,071 yards. Outside of his career-best performance in Week 17 against the Indianapolis Colts—where he passed for 309 yards and had five total touchdowns (four passing, one rushing)—his time with the Giants showed that he’s not the answer at quarterback in 2025.
This quarterback ranking is brutal for the Giants, but it’s a fair criticism. New York’s quarterback play this season was atrocious. They took a chance on Jones rebounding after his injury-shortened 2023 season, and it did not pay off.
Even though this year’s quarterback class isn’t as loaded as last year’s—despite it containing Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward, who are both poised to be NFL studs—it’s a no-brainer what the Giants will do at No. 3 in the draft.
