Cam Skattebo throwing percentages around is a beautiful problem for New York

"I've felt 99.9 percent. I think the 100 percent is when I put shoulder pads on, and I'm able to hit someone," New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo said when asked about how he's been feeling after three days of training camp.

I think I speak for all Giants fans when I say I cannot wait for him to get to 100. Also, shout out to Skatt for throwing out percentages as a known "not a big math" guy.

Skatt is well on his way to being available for Week 1 after suffering a gruesome dislocated ankle and tibia fracture last season that ended his rookie year prematurely. The timing of the injury was incredibly deflating. The human-sized fire hydrant instantly became a fan favorite in New York, but he was always so much more than just a cult hero to this fan base. He was -- and will be when he returns -- a key part of New York's offense, hitting his stride right before he went down.

The wait for full-strength Cam Skattebo is almost over

Before going down, the 24-year-old was on an absolute tear. He entered Week 8 with five straight games of 90 or more all-purpose yards and five touchdowns, taking the league by storm. The former Arizona State standout gave Jaxson Dart a reliable weapon in an otherwise anemic offense.

It didn't help that Big Blue had already lost star receiver Malik Nabers a month prior to a torn ACL. So, when the unhinged running back joined him on the sideline just a few weeks later, it only compounded the strain on the offense.

Fortunately, both appear to be trending in the right direction ahead of Week 1.

Nabers had a planned day off on Friday after back-to-back days of full-speed drills earlier in the week. Those sessions were the first time anyone had gotten to see him doing football activities since his injury. While there's no timetable for his return, the fact that he's cutting and coming in and out of routes with no trouble is a great sign.

As for Skatt, his being as close to 100 percent as you can get without pads on couldn't be better news for a Giants team looking to claw its way out of the NFC East basement in Year 1 under John Harbaugh.

While both players are crucial to compete, Harbaugh will need the 5-foot-11, 219-pound sledgehammer ready to go if he's going to implement his run-opponents-into-submission offensive game plan. He and Tyrone Tracy Jr. are the perfect thunder-and-lightning pairing for that kind of system -- Tracy brings the juice on the outside, while Skatt runs through everyone and everything in his way.

The way Skatt talks about contact, you’d think he’s turning into Frozone from The Incredibles: “Honey, where are my shoulder pads?!”

Now, someone go get him those shoulder pads.
