Are the New York Giants one panic move away from completely hijacking the 2026 offseason?
Panic surrounding Big Blue's secondary hit a boiling point Wednesday after free-agent target Terrion Arnold left New York without a contract, only to sign a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks shortly after.
Before signing with Seattle, Arnold flew into New Jersey for a visit and workout. The former 2024 first-round pick was on the open market after the Detroit Lions released him in June following his arrest in Florida. The 23-year-old is facing eight felony charges, including four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery.
With rookie Colton Hood looking like the only obvious long-term piece in the cornerback room, Big Blue is staring down an impending nightmare.
Naturally, that got some people thinking, leading Giants insider Art Stapleton to throw gasoline on the fire. He thinks New York should pivot and call the New England Patriots about All-Pro cornerback Christian Gonzalez.

Giving New England a call makes sense on paper. I mean, what's the worst that can happen -- they say no? Big whoop.
Gonzalez is currently in a contract stalemate with the Pats, something Giants fans remember all too well (Dexter Lawrence, anyone?). The 24-year-old corner skipped their joint practice with the Colts and posted a cryptic Instagram story featuring lyrics from Gunna's song "Time Reveals, Be Careful What You Wish For" with the text "should have been done by now."
Yet, here we still are... with nothing done.
It’s not hard to understand why the two sides haven’t found common ground. Word on the street is he wants a mind-boggling $34- $35 million per year, resetting the CB market.
You might be thinking to yourself, there's no way the Patriots would ever trade their superstar corner, but just a couple of months ago, if you told me Sexy Dexy would demand a trade after stalled contract talks, I'd tell you you were bonkers. In today's NFL, when a star player gets unhappy with their team, things can fall apart fast.
But let’s be real: shaking the Gonzo trade tree is still going to cost a king's ransom. If Joe Schoen somehow got New England to listen, it’s not hard to imagine the price reaching Kayvon Thibodeaux, New York’s 2027 first-rounder, another premium pick, or some combination of the three.
That's a lot to part with while handing Gonzalez a market-setting mega-deal. It honestly feels like an unnecessary overcorrection for missing out on Arnold. Big Blue only makes that move if they believe they're Super Bowl contenders now.
The G-Men haven’t proven they’re serious contenders yet. So before we go trading away the farm, let's see how Saturday's preseason opener against the Vikings actually goes and how the CBs hold up. If it's truly the disaster we fear, maybe it's time to start actually considering leaning into the chaos.
