In what somehow feels like both forever ago and just yesterday, the New York Giants re-signed Darius Slayton. The two sides agreed to a three-year, $36 million deal earlier this offseason.
It was a relatively surprising move, but it showed the team actually values keeping a guy who’s quietly been their most reliable wide receiver during a never-ending carousel of quarterback chaos. That’s progress, even if it wasn’t the flashiest move.
But re-signing Slayton only really mattered if the G-Men actually got him someone who could, you know, throw him the football. Signing “Famous” Jameis Winston was a step in the right direction. He’s a serviceable vet and spot starter. But when Russell Wilson signed a one-year, [upwards of] $21 million deal with Big Blue? That’s when things got zesty.
Darius Slayton's social media post is major Russell Wilson stamp of approval
Slayton wasted no time letting the world know exactly how he felt on social media. It wasn’t some long message, no generic “can't wait to get to work” post. He kept it short and sarcastic and even added a little trivia question out there for those who wished to participate:
Anybody know what stadium Russel Wilson won his Super Bowl in? 🤔

That’s how you respond when you’ve gone from Daniel Jones, Tommy DeVito, Drew Lock, and Tim Boyle… to a Super Bowl-winning quarterback calling the shots.
Slayton has every reason to be excited. He’s toughed it out through some brutal quarterback play and still managed to be semi-productive, though last year’s numbers (573 yards and two touchdowns) weren’t exactly highlight-reel material. Now, as the veteran leader in a receiver room featuring Malik Nabers and Wan’Dale Robinson, there’s real potential.
Wilson may not be prime Russ anymore, but he’s still the best quarterback Slayton’s ever played with. He’s accurate. Experienced. And he’s not afraid to take deep shots, which could finally unlock the part of Slayton’s game that’s been waiting for an opportunity.
The Giants have hedged their bets this offseason. They brought in Winston, still hold the No. 3 pick, and might draft a rookie to sit and learn. But with Wilson, they finally have a quarterback who can run the offense right now. For Slayton, who’s stayed loyal through all the losing, that’s more than enough.
He’s earned the right to play with a real quarterback who's won on the biggest stage. Speaking of, Darius… we know exactly what stadium Russell Wilson won that Super Bowl in.
