ESPN's wild all-trades mock draft might not be as absurd as it looks

Bill Barnwell might be on to something.

With the 2025 NFL Draft about three weeks away, Joe Schoen and the New York Giants will explore all options with the third overall pick.

Big Blue's front office has already had a productive offseason. They have addressed multiple positional needs, including improving their secondary and quarterback room, which was their priority going into this offseason. New York signed cornerback Paulson Adebo, safety Jevon Holland, and quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson in free agency this offseason.

New York could take multiple different approaches in the first round. They could prioritize a quarterback prospect like Shedeur Sanders or Jaxson Dart, or Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, or even a defensive stud like Abdul Carter or Mason Graham.

The Giants sent a massive contingent to Colorado's Pro Day to watch Sanders and Hunter on Friday. The organization sent an unprecedented total of 14 front office and coaching staff members. Both Sanders and Hunter will be options for the Giants at No. 3.

The G-Men could also move down in the draft order and do a pick swap in the first round, allowing them to address another position and add draft capital in the later rounds, which they could use to trade for a veteran player.

The Giants could move down in the first round to trade for a veteran

Bill Barnwell of ESPN suggested this idea in his recent 2025 NFL mock draft with all trades, which includes all 32 teams trading for a first-round pick.

The mock draft had the Giants trading down with the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers would receive the third overall pick and a 2026 fifth-round pick in exchange for the eighth overall pick, pick No. 57, and a 2026 second-round pick.

After adding pick No. 57, the Giants would own two second-round picks in this upcoming draft, which they could use to add players who can help immediately. After finishing 3-14 last season, the Giants should look to add players who can help them win in the short term, and they would be able to do that with two second-round picks.

Adding a veteran defensive edge rusher to a talented defensive pass-rush unit consisting of Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, and Kayvon Thibodeaux would help the team win immediately. Could you imagine this defense if the Giants found Sexy Dexy an interior running mate?

The Giants could also bring in a veteran offensive lineman who could be made available by another team. New York has continuously looked to improve their offensive line, and this could be their chance to do that with the right players brought in via trade.
