When the New York Giants drafted Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, they moved quickly to reunite him with one of his favorite targets in undrafted free agency. They signed Antwane "Juice" Wells Jr. in order to offer their franchise QB a built-in security blanket from an old friend.
Dart and Juice lit up the SEC at Ole Miss, and the Giants were hoping the presence of a familiar face would help him adjust to life in the NFL. Unfortunately, their idea of a fairy tale ended early when Wells fell victim to final roster cuts last summer, but not before he showed potential in training camp.
That aforementioned upside and a successful stint in the UFL led the 25-year-old to get a second shot in the NFL, when he signed with the Atlanta Falcons. And while it originally looked like he would just be a camp body, the wideout quickly started to turn heads in training camp in Flowery Branch.
Juice Wells Jr. may have found a new home with the Atlanta Falcons
Since training camp has kicked off, Wells Jr. has really started to live up to his nickname--he's injected some juice into this Atlanta offense. He's started to develop a rapport with Michael Penix Jr.--whom he's connected with on multiple big plays across the last couple of days.
One of Juice's best reps came on Wednesday. During a 1-on-1 drill against Cobee Bryant, Wells Jr. did a nasty double move against Bryant that saw him connect with Penix on a long touchdown. The throw was beautiful, but his speed helped him create a bunch of separation on the double move.
Given the Giants didn't really have room for him in their crowded receiver room, it's cool to see he's started to make waves in a much more open rotation with the Falcons. Atlanta only has four roster spots at WR on lock for Drake London, Jahan Dotson, Olamide Zaccheus, and Zachariah Branch--so if he sustains this momentum he could push for a spot at the bottom of their depth chart.
Wells is competing with players such as Dylan Drummond, Chris Blair, Vinny Anthony II, and Le'Meke Brockington for a roster spot, and right now, it appears that he and Blair are separating themselves the most from the pack--and early returns confirmed he has real merit to steal away a roster spot.
Antwane Wells Jr. is starting to prove that he doesn't need Jaxson Dart's help to stay afloat, as his summer with the Atlanta Falcons is looking primed to become a long-term stay. Just like his UFL stint, as long as he keeps providing the Juice, good things will happen.
