The New York Giants were in the news on Monday after it was announced they would dismiss Brian Daboll from his duties as the team’s head coach. The news comes after the G-Men dropped their fourth consecutive game last Sunday to the Bears, falling to 2-8 on the season.
While firing a head coach is never a good thing, the next Giants head coach will be in for a treat, as they're inheriting a franchise with a bright future. Big Blue has Malik Nabers, Cam Skattebo, and — of course — Jaxson Dart in the building for years to come. Not to mention, they’ll likely have a top-five pick in next year’s NFL Draft.
The next head coach should be extremely excited to work with Dart. The 22-year-old has had an inspiring rookie campaign with Big Blue and has already broken several records in just seven starts. While his stats are great, the cherry on top might be the compliment Dart just received from Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre.
Brett Favre's praise for Jaxson Dart is exactly what the next Giants HC needs to hear before taking over
One of the people who surprisingly chimed in on the G-Men-Daboll discussion on Monday was Favre — three-time MVP and Super Bowl champion — who shared his thoughts and reactions on social media.
The 56-year-old stated on his personal X account, "I think New York has something with Jaxon Dart. They probably would've won yesterday if he didn't get hurt, and they'd give Daboll a little longer."
He’s absolutely right! If Dart doesn’t get hurt or comes back into Sunday’s loss against the Bears, there’s a good chance Big Blue wins that game, and Dabs may have bought a little more time as the team’s head coach. That’s not to say he wouldn’t have eventually been let go, but he would have at least survived another week before the team made any further decisions.
Obviously, this past week was not the way John Mara and the Giants front office anticipated it going; however, Favre may be on to something about Dart, who became the first quarterback in NFL history to have a rushing touchdown in five consecutive games.
Not that Dart needed any more support or public endorsements from the best, but adding the 11-time Pro Bowler to his list isn’t such a bad thing—and it makes the Giants’ head coaching job even more attractive to potential candidates.
