If Joe Schoen’s goal is to spark a Giants turnaround like the Jacksonville Jaguars or New England Patriots pulled off this past season, New York's general manager is already falling behind.
Mike Vrabel was the perfect coaching hire for the Pats. He was a former Super Bowl-winner with the team in the early days of the dynasty, and had considerable success as the Tennessee Titans coach in his six years there. Additionally, the Jags had so much faith in Liam Coen as their HC that they literally fired their GM, Trent Baalke, because Coen wouldn't work with him.
Those are two defining outliers in a league filled with standard hiring processes. Does it make sense that Schoen would like for Big Blue's new HC to turn them from a 4-13 team to a 14-3 NFC East Division winner? Of course. However, expectations should be tempered from a front office exec who's won seven games the past two seasons.

It also doesn't help that the first two head coach interviewees are underwhelming and don't remotely fall into the outlier bucket.
Giants’ first two head coach interviews has fans unimpressed
The 46-year-old GM has thrown out buzzwords like "leader," "CEO," "player development," and "accountability" when describing the next coach. But as Giants fans have come to terms with far too often, it’s all overpromising and underdelivering... and the first two HC interviews just proved we’re living in a simulation.
Here we were, enjoying our quiet Tuesday, when out of nowhere, two breaking news posts hit the timeline like a jab-cross from heavyweight boxer Larry Holmes. ESPN's Adam Schefter came in with the jab:
Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph is expected to interview this week for the Raiders, Cardinals, Giants and Titans head coaching vacancies, per sources. pic.twitter.com/W7Ij89Lu3c

Joseph’s 11-21 record as Broncos head coach still lingers, especially given how sloppy and unprepared those teams often looked. Add game management concerns and a perception that he never quite commanded the locker room all that well, and it’s not hard to see why this name won't excite the fans all that much.
But just when you thought you had a chance to recover, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo hit Big Blue Nation with the cross:
The #Giants have requested permission to interview #Colts DC Lou Anarumo for their head-coaching job, source says. The Staten Island native and former NYG assistant will interview with the team in the near future.
— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) January 6, 2026
A familiar name, sure -- Staten Island native, former Giants defensive backs coach, past ties with Schoen -- but also a 36-year veteran with zero head coaching experience. That combo doesn’t exactly scream “next great leader,” especially not after the way the Indianapolis Colts collapsed in the second half of the season last year. Also, it's just painfully obvious the fan base wants nothing to do with Anarumo as the HC.
It's not all bad news. Later in the afternoon, Garafolo reported that New York had set up a meeting with recently fired Browns HC Kevin Stefanksi, set for Wednesday, which, based on our polling:
#Giants fans -- who would you like as the next HC?

would be the Giants fans' preferred hire.
