It’s only OTAs but Jaxson Dart is already turning heads in a big way

The New York Giants are confident they have at least one starting quarterback on the roster heading into 2025. They did a lot to overhaul the roster, bringing in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency, along with trading up and drafting Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The team also brought Tommy DeVito back for another year, so it's safe to say, one of these guys will come out of camp as the starting qaurterback.

Fortunately for the G-Men, they got a close-up look at the quarterback room on Day 2 of OTAs. Overall, the stat lines did not look very good, especially during their 7-on-7 drills. Wilson completed one pass on four attempts for a touchdown. Winston might have already moved down the pecking order, completing one pass on three attempts with an interception. While Dart completed one pass on three attempts with a touchdown.

Wilson throwing a TD pass is definitely something to get excited about, but the 36-year-old has also already thrown 350 throughout his career, so apologies if a pass in the flat to Eric Gray wasn't all that exciting. What was exciting was Dart's... dart to undrafted free agent Antwane "Juice" Wells for a touchdown.

Jaxson Dart's precision was on display early at OTAs

It's only OTAs but it's time for fans to start getting excited about the potential Dart brings. Look at this throw to Wells below:

The ball is perfectly timed, in rhythm, and placed only where the receiver can catch it. That's veteran-level stuff right there.

Coming out of the draft, Dart was widely viewed as a project—a player not ready for the bright lights. It was assumed that after working under head coach Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss, Dart's playmaking ability wouldn't immediately translate to NFL success. Well, well, well... how the turn tables...

It looks like Dart is already a bit more ready than analysts led fans to believe. And that's awesome. And while it is only Day 2 of OTAs, why not get excited? This organization has gone through quarterback after quarterback to no end. It's time to celebrate. Because here's the thing: if things go according to plan, Dart doesn't need to start at all this season. He'll get reps just like this in, daily. Who knows how good he can become with a year of NFL-level reps?

So no, one throw in late May won’t change the depth chart just yet. But it should make fans feel good about where this thing is heading. Dart was drafted to grow, not save the day. And if throws like the one to Juice keeps showing up, the Giants might’ve finally put themselves in position to stop chasing answers and start building around one.
