Jameis Winston has quietly been the New York Giants’ offseason MVP

The world can’t get enough of Famous Jameis.

Even those who know nothing about the NFL have spent recent months in the Jameis Winston Zone.

When he’s not serving as the New York Giants’ backup quarterback, Winston has been a busy bee throughout the offseason.

From contributing to Netflix’s MLB Opening Night coverage to leading Seattle in a “USA” chant before a World Cup match, it’s hard to look anywhere without seeing Winston on your screen

Not that the Giants should be complaining, mind you. The more positive attention Winston gets means less negative commentary and fewer think pieces about Jaxson Dart.

Jaxon Dart and the Giants should love Jameis Winston’s offseason sports tour

Rarely does a backup quarterback make the high-profile rounds that Winston has in recent months. But when people are focused on Winston’s enthusiasm and affable personality, their attention doesn’t need to be on Dart.

In most years, this is the time when we’d hear nonstop arguments about Dart’s concussion history and viability as a franchise quarterback

And, yes, we’ve certainly seen some call out Dart’s playstyle and express doubt about his long-term prospects, but not to the level that we typically would, especially on a national scale.

Of course, not even Winston could save Dart from the Donald Trump-Abdul Carter controversy, but that incident died fairly quickly.

Outside of a few dissenters, social media loves Winston. He’s the extremely rare example of a backup quarterback regularly going viral for the right reasons.

In a way, Winston is almost an unintentional decoy for Dart and the Giants. Heck, even we’re taking time to write about the No. 2 quarterback in a non-preview story!

Selfishly, Giants fans should want this current situation to go on indefinitely. Dart is healthy, motivated, and ready to thrive under John Harbaugh, even if he might enter Week 1 with a diminished receiving core

The talk about Dart is almost entirely football-related, and there’s a sense of optimism around the Giants not seen in years. The positivity comes amid questions surrounding the rest of what looks to be a mediocre NFC East.

Keep doing what you’re doing, Jameis. Show up to the MLB All-Star Game next month and get the Philadelphia crowd going for America’s 250th anniversary. Maybe even throw a pot shot in at Eagles fans while you’re on the mic.

Besides, it’s better that Giants fans get their kick of Winston now, because if they’re talking about him in mid-October, then something has likely gone terribly wrong.
