The New York Giants have been about as careful as can be with wide receiver Malik Nabers since he tore his ACL late last September, so it should come as no surprise that nearly 11 months after the injury, Nabers finally hit a major milestone that he had yet to cross.
In the Giants' most recent training camp practice, Nabers was able to go full-speed in 11-on-11 drills. One again, this marked the first time Nabers has participated in 11-on-11 at full speed since his initial injury on September 28, 2025.
Per Jordan Raanan, Nabers also caught three passes in full-speed 7-on-7 drills.
For Giants fans who have been following along, they know how pivotal a practice like this is. It's been a long, delicate journey and that's been completely by design.
Now, also according to Raanan, Nabers did some additional route running on the sidelines while working with trainers. Raanan said Nabers "ran gingerly at times but seemed to complete scheduled workload."
Malik Nabers' latest training camp practice is right on par with John Harbaugh's recent comments
At first glance, Giants fans might read the "ran gingerly" comment and feel more negatively than positively. The update, in its entirety, certainly comes with some yin and yang.
The positive is, of course, Nabers being able to go full speed in 11-on-11 while definitely doesn't feel good to read that he later ran gingerly on the sidelines.
But, head coach John Harbaugh did recently say that this is where Nabers would be at this stage in the game. Doing full-speed drills as he did, today, is a positive and right in line with what Harbaugh said the plan would be.
Now, the "gingerly" part of the equation is actually pretty normal if you step back for a minute. Harbaugh said Nabers has already been running, planting and cutting. Going out and doing full team periods like he was able to accomplish Monday, will likely take some time getting used to.
This only proves that it will still take time for Nabers to be the guy we were once used to seeing at full strength. As has seemed to be the feeling, recently, Nabers should still be in line to play in Week 1. But, the idea that Nabers will take on a full workload in terms of snaps and targets, is likely a bit ambitious.
Nabers, in all likelihood, was simply sore from getting back out there during team drills. So, the fact that he looked to be running more gingerly, or cautiously at times, shouldn't come as a shock to the fans. This is all perfectly normal and part of the process.
So long as Harbaugh continues to speak positively and optimistically in terms of a Week 1 return, I wouldn't worry too much about any of the growing pains from now until then. Nabers is still on track, and these types of updates should be considered the norm.
