The New York Giants' fanbase was thrown into a state of complete shock in their Week 8 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, as rookie sensation running back Cam Skattebo suffered a serious injury that may end up bringing his fabulous rookie season to a close in unceremonious fashion.

Skattebo suffered a nasty ankle injury that was so immediately gut-wrenching that the bench immediately emptied out and dropped to their knees. Skattebo was taken off on a cart, and the odds of him coming back to play anytime soon seem fairly low due to the severity of the injury.

Injuries like this often have a way of uniting fanbases, as no one wants to see a player like that be stricken with such a career-altering injury. One Hall of Famer who knows a thing or two about serious injuries even managed to wish his former NFC East rivals well following the play.

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin, who is certainly not a very warmly received figure among members of this Giants fanbase, sent prayers Skattebo's way. No matter what team you root for, everyone wants to see Skattebo back on the field.

Michael Irvin sends well wishes to Giants RB Cam Skattebo after injury

Skattebo, who has earned a great deal of fan praise as a result of his hard-charging style and nose for the end zone, came into this game with 587 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns. Skattebo was on the receiving end of a Jaxson Dart touchdown pass early in this contest.

Skattebo was needed on a Giants team that was struggling to run the ball before inserting him in the lineup and was reeling at the wide receiver position following the loss of Malik Nabers for the remainder of the 2025 season. The thin skill position group is somehow getting even thinner.

With Skattebo likely to be sidelined, it seems as though the recently reactivated Tyrone Tracy will be in line for the lion's share of his touches. Devin Singletary is still floating around on the back end of that depth chart in case Tracy is not capable of getting the job done.

The Giants will look like a much different team without Skattebo, who seems to have proven that he can be a quality running back at the professional level after overcoming doubts about his athletic ability. Irvin, and many around the league, want to see him back as soon as possible.
