New York Giants rookie offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa has the difficult task of transitioning to both the NFL and a new position.
So far, Giants offensive line coach Mike Bloomgren is more than pleased with his new right guard.
After only playing tackle at Miami, Mauigoa is moving inside for the Giants. The No. 10 pick is the only new face on a veteran Giants offensive line returning four starters, including left tackle Andrew Thomas.
Speaking with reporters this week, Bloomgren raved about Mauigoa and how the All-American lineman impressed throughout the pre-draft process.
“When you have one who you feel is head and shoulders above, and you get the opportunity to actually work with him, you’re going to be excited,” Bloomgren said.
“As a rookie, even though you’ve told him, sometimes you have to live that moment. But the thing that Sisi is doing a great job of is not making the same mistake twice.”
Bloomgren added that his children view Mauigoa, who turned 21 earlier this month, as their “third brother.”
The Giants are already publicly buying high on Francis Mauigoa
Considering that the Giants technically traded up for Mauigoa by selecting him with the pick acquired in the Dexter Lawrence trade, one would hope they’d currently be optimistic.
Bloomgren praised Miami offensive line coach Alex Mirabal for how successful his units have been in recent years. Counting Mauigoa, the Hurricanes have had four offensive linemen drafted since the start of 2025.
Mauigoa, Jets guard Anez Cooper, and Eagles right tackle Markel Bell were all selected this past April. The Falcons signed All-American center James Brockermeyer after the draft.
The Giants have said all of the right things about Mauigoa, who was all but appointed the Week 1 starting right guard from draft night. Barring any unexpected changes, Mauigoa will likely remain inside for the foreseeable future.
Thomas has three seasons left on his contract, and right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor inked a three-year, $39 million extension this spring. Eluemunor received a $12 million signing bonus and over $25 million in guaranteed money.
Although left guard Jon Runyan Jr. and center John Michael Schmitz are entering the last year of their contracts, there is no indication that the Giants would consider moving Mauigoa to either spot.
For now, Bloomgren and the Giants are solely focused on Mauigoa growing into the offensive lineman they desperately need to keep Jaxson Dart healthy and on his feet.
