New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo is many things, but staying out of the spotlight is not one of them. You might think the soon-to-be 24-year-old would be keeping quiet, rehabbing in the background after suffering a gruesome season-ending injury last year, but you'd be so wrong.
Instead, Skattebo popped up at Arizona State’s celebrity softball game, sending a few balls to the moon and looking like he was having the time of his life out there. The ASU alum stole the show off the two-sport chops, but it was a question about former Sun Devil teammate Jordyn Tyson that really grabbed Giants fans’ attention.
When the question came up about whether Skatt was lobbying new head coach John Harbaugh and Co. to take the star wide receiver at No. 5, he didn’t exactly dance around it:
"I'm going to try to get all my guys in the NFL -- they all have to come to the Giants. That's what I'm going to try to do. Hopefully something works out. There's a chance they [Giants' front office] get him [Tyson], I'm not in charge... They're going to do what they do, and hopefully, they make the right decisions."
Cam Skattebo doesn’t hide who he wants the Giants to draft
You can read into the "hopefully they make the right decisions," but I won't. If anything, Skatt's a team-first guy, so that seems more like normal speak than any sort of doubt that New York won't make the right selection. No, I'm interested in the Tyson endorsement... like he wasn't going to vouch for his guy.
It's not hard to see why the running back wants his boys with him. The last time the duo shared the field, Arizona State shocked the world by winning the Big 12 and reaching the College Football Playoff.
As for the Giants, they have a clear need for a receiver room makeover. It's essentially Malik Nabers and maybe Wan'Dale Robinson, if he's re-signed this offseason. That's really it. So, aside from Skattebo having a very biased rooting interest, he's definitely on to something.

Tyson makes sense because he consistently gets open and wins his routes. He'd give Jaxson Dart a guy who's exactly where he’s supposed to be when the ball comes out. Pairing him with Nabers could feed families and would give NY two legitimate outside options instead of asking one guy to do everything.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder is arguably the best technical wideout in the draft. He has elite route-running ability, and when paired with his separation skills and strong hands, he becomes a truly intriguing prospect to consider at five.
Skatt, like the rest of us, will have to wait until April to see if his dreams come true. Now it’s on Harbaugh to decide whether his RB's message lines up with the direction he’s trying to take this team. If the mission is to build around franchise quarterback Jaxson Dart, the G-Men can't afford to mess this up.
