In what seems to be a now-recurring theme, New York Giants free-agent addition Chauncey Golston can’t seem to shake the feeling that he’s not in Dallas anymore. There’s no Yellow Brick Road, but his teammates might want to steer him down the Big Blue path instead.
The Giants signed Golston to a three-year, $18 million deal earlier this offseason. His arrival was a bit interesting, seeing as though Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns were already on the roster, but a team can never have too many disruptors. Still, despite the change of scenery, it’s apparently been hard for Golston to get used to his new drapes.
On the heels of what might be the most electric quote of the offseason, the 27-year-old practically did a 180 when asked about the Micah Parsons–Dallas Cowboys disaster. Forgetting he now plays in New York, Golston betrayed his new squad: “Pay the man,” he told Jared Schwartz of the New York Post. “That’s all I can really say. That’s my guy. Pay him. He’s worth it."
Chauncey Golston's three words were the ultimate Giants betrayal
To be clear, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with Golston supporting his former teammate. Parsons is one of the best defenders in the NFL, and if you’ve gone to war with someone in the trenches for four seasons, of course, you’re going to vouch for him. But he's no longer your guy... or at least, he shouldn't be. Have Abdul Carter be your guy instead.
Parsons’ ongoing meltdown with Jerry Jones has been nothing less than a gift for Giants fans. Jerry's torpedoed extension talks, leaving Parsons to attempt to tweet his way out of Dallas altogether. It’s a disaster over there, which makes it even funnier when Golston, now a Giant, is publicly campaigning for the Cowboys to fix it.
There’s a better solution here. If Golston really wants Parsons to get what he's worth, he can point him to Jermaine Eluemunor’s advice: Go get that bag in the AFC. Everyone wins.
As for Golston, he has a real shot at earning something special in New York. His versatility and breakout 2024 season could make him more than just a rotational piece. In a defense full of quarterback nightmares, he might just stay unnoticed long enough to be an absolute terror.
Golston can miss Dallas all he wants... just not on Sundays. He’s not a Cowboy anymore. And if he plays his cards right, he might just end up being one of the Giants’ best under-the-radar additions.
