The New York Giants have been linked to various quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft, including a possible Top 10 pick in Colorado's Shedeur Sanders. One of their more controversial NFL Draft plans may involve a move for a quarterback, though it won't end with Sanders in Giants blue.
According to Connor Hughes of SNY, the Giants could be targeting a move up from pick No. 34 overall to the latter stages of the first round to target Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. It appears that head coach Brian Daboll might be overruling Joe Schoen here due to his reported love of Dart as a prospect.
Hughes says that Daboll loves Dart's toughness, which is a trait he places a great deal of emphasis on when evaluating quarterbacks. The production in college and his ability to slice up defenses down the field may have played an equally big part in Daboll's evaluation of Dart.
Giants may trade up for Jaxson Dart in NFL Draft
The Giants could be a good spot for Dart, as his issues when pressured in the pocket and experience in a very basic Ole Miss offense might designate him as a player who needs to sit and adjust to the speed of the game. Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston might give him that opportunity.
Dart's best traits are his tremendous downfield accuracy, skill at throwing in rhythm, and accuracy throwing into tight windows could all lead Daboll to believe he could reverse a half-decade of futility the Giants have been saddled with after Eli Manning's retirement.
Dart is expected to be picked at the end of the first round or the beginning of the second round. The Giants can roll the dice and wait on Dart to be there at 34, but teams like the Steelers, Rams, and Browns all pick ahead of them. They could all take Dart over Jalen Milroe if he slides that far.
If the Giants feel strongly enough about picking Dart in the NFL Draft, they should be well within their rights to move up in the order to take him. In a draft that is thin at quarterback, Dart is a better option than waiting for a riskier quarterback like Tyler Shough later.
