After a 2024 season where New York Giants fans had to hear about how ridiculous the team was for letting running back Saquon Barkley leave and how smart the Philadelphia Eagles were for signing him, it's safe to say the fanbase is tired of hearing about him or from him. Barkley joined an Eagles team with one of the best offensive lines in the league, put up over 2,000 rushing yards, and won his first Super Bowl.
The Giants did get a feel good win against the Eagles and Barkley just a couple of weeks ago on Thursday Night Football on the very night Amazon was premiering Barkley's documentary. Flash forward to this past Sunday, and Barkley and the Eagles got a win back, picking up a dominant 38-20 victory. Barkley had a huge game, rushing for 150 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.
After the game, Barkley was asked about his motivation entering Sunday's game. Barkley said that he was upset at how the Giants celebrated their win back in Week 6.
"We definitely saw how they celebrated when they beat us last time. I think one of my favorite things Coach Sirianni says is, the revenge mindset, that last for five minutes, and then it goes back to your habits," said Barkley, h/t SNY.
Saquon Barkley had incredibly petty motivation to beat the Giants in Week 8
So Barkley didn't like how the Giants celebrated after winning a regular season game? Given the Giants' recent history, primetime wins are a rarity. Plus, this was a game where rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart completed 17-of-25 throws for 195 yards and a touchdown, while running for 58 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, while Cam Skattebo accounted for 98 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries. Two rookies having big showings on the national stage? How dare they celebrate.
Even Giants reporters were baffled by Barkley's comments about being upset about the Giants' celebrating in Week 6.
They were a young team celebrating a nice win, Saquon. Enough already now with the bitterness. You got a ring for God’s sake. https://t.co/g1y9OjL7fN

Did I miss a rule change that bans a team from celebrating a win? https://t.co/ifraHGglMs

It's such an odd response from Barkley. He won the argument against the Giants. General manager Joe Schoen didn't want to pay him huge money. He left the Giants, signed with the Eagles, and won a Super Bowl. He won the argument. But in a return to MetLife Stadium after winning said Super Bowl, Barkley was obviously bitter how the Giants celebrated. Let's be real here, this is probably one of the biggest Giants wins in recent memory, as they are not making the playoffs this year.
Barkley rebounded this Sunday after not doing much against the Giants two weeks ago, where he picked up 58 rushing yards on 12 carries. He got the last laugh and will now focus on winning another Super Bowl wih the Giants out of the way.
It's safe to say that the Giants fanbase won't be upset to not hear from Barkley for the rest of this season.
