Giants’ Francis Mauigoa pick could have serious ripple effects for Cam Skattebo

With Mauigoa up front, you can basically let Skattebo walk right into the end zone at this point!

Since John Harbaugh was hired by the New York Giants, one message has been clear: to build those trenches. He, of course, is emphasizing bolstering Big Blue’s offensive and defensive lines.

The G-Men didn’t hesitate to address the trenches. First, they selected Arvell Reese from Ohio State at pick No. 5. Next, they added Miami offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa at pick No. 10. Both will give the Giants leverage on both sides of the ball, specifically in the pass rush and run blocking departments.

Mauigoa’s role goes beyond protecting quarterback Jaxson Dart, whom he said he's ready to die for. He directly impacts the effectiveness of Big Blue’s run game by supporting a key running back.

Skatt may be the real winner from the Giants drafting Francis Mauigoa

With the Giants bringing back right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor in free agency this offseason, and All-Pro left tackle Andrew Thomas will lock down the tackle positions, meaning the line is shaping up well. Mauigoa will slide in perfectly at right guard, which will complete the offensive line and make Cam Skattebo’s life a lot easier blocking for him up front.

Mauigoa is considered by many to be the best offensive lineman in this year’s NFL Draft Class, and with that comes his elite run blocking abilities. FanSided’s Mike Luciano said:

"With some of the best power of any draftable prospect and a nastiness in the running game that will make him an above-average run-blocker the minute he steps on an NFL field."

Skattebo should be fully recovered from a season-ending ankle injury that cut his impressive rookie campaign short by the start of training camp and could even be ahead of schedule. We could even see him as early as OTAs, but the G-Men must have enough protection for him so he can return to his old form when he is fully healthy.

If Harbaugh wants to implement a smash-mouth brand of offense with the Giants similar to what he ran with the Ravens, they’ll need all the run-blocking help they can get for their second-year running back, and that’s where fullback Pat Ricard and Mauigoa come into the picture. With those two guys alone blocking for him, who is really going to take down Skatt at that point? You might as well let him walk him right into the end zone.

If you thought the Giants' 2025 fourth-rounder had a solid rookie campaign, get ready for a full season of Skatt and Dart, everyone's favorite duo, and they'll have even more run-blocking help as well. That's a nightmare for opposing defensive linemen and linebackers trying to stop this run game.
