It’s gotta be tough being a New York Giants fan these days, or at least a bit shell-shocked. Unless someone has been living under a rock, the G-Men pulled the trigger on a franchise-altering move by trading All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for the No. 10 overall pick.
While Sexy Dexy was the backbone of this defense since 2019, his Year 7 dip in production and the team's shift in strategy (money) led to the move that eventually landed the Giants a new pillar for the offensive line: Miami's Francis Mauigoa.Â
But moving on from a 340-pound force in the middle leaves a literal massive void. Fortunately, general manager Joe Schoen has been busy reworking the room. The first big veteran move was the savvy signing of 12-year veteran Shelby Harris, as reported by Aaron Wilson:

After a visit to East Rutherford earlier in the offseason, Harris agreed to terms to bring 300 pounds of veteran savvy to the interior in a much-needed post-draft move.
Giants are taking a committee approach to replacing Dexter Lawrence with Shelby Harris signing
Entering "ear Dozen, Harris is now playing on his fifth team. The 6-foot-3, 300-pounder most recently spent the last three seasons with the Cleveland Browns, contributing to a 2025 defense that finished near the top of the league.
He is nowhere close to being a one-for-one replacement for Dex -- no one is, but he brings an elite ability to swat passes at the line (he has 40 in his career) and a reliable motor that the G-Men need.
New York clearly wasn't done adding talent after the draft. With Rakeem Nunez-Roches and D.J. Davidson gone in free agency, the team used the 186th pick in the 2026 Draft to snag Bobby Jamison-Travis. At 6-foot-3 and nearly 330 pounds, Jamison-Travis is a physical presence who's, at the moment, strictly a run-stuffing, one-dimensional project, unlikely to make the roster.
He's more one-dimensional than I'd like, but that's why coaches get paid, right?
Keep an eye out for another veteran signing -- did someone say D.J. Reader -- in the coming days. I doubt Harris will be the only guy they bring in after waiting until Day 3 to address the defensive front.
While the Lawrence era in New York has officially come to a close, the combination of veteran leadership from Harris and the raw power of Jamison-Travis, alongside an up-and-coming weapon in Darius Alexander, gives the G-Men a reworked rotation that looks somewhat capable of helping us move on from the big guy.
