New York Giants backup quarterback Jameis Winston is the gift that keeps on giving. Known for his larger-than-life personality, every time he opens his mouth, it turns into a viral moment.
Winston all but created the Mount Rushmore of the most electric players to touch the football. From his "We outside, but we inside" pre-game speech to his "More giggles, more laughter, more fun" motto, you never know what's going to come out of his mouth. That's why it'll be a truly sad day when the 2015 first-overall pick hangs up the cleats.
The reality is his best days are probably behind him. The 32-year-old is heading into his 12th season under center, and Father Time is undefeated. Retirement chatter is going to follow him whether he likes it or not. Luckily for everyone, Winston has no interest in walking away anytime soon. Appearing on Barstool’s Pardon My Take, Famous Jameis peeled back the curtain on his timeline, and let’s just say it’s something Giants fans... all football fans can get behind:
“I would love to play 12 more years. I'm gonna be on 12 this year.”
Jameis Winston isn’t thinking about retirement anytime soon
Uhh, yes please. Sign me all the way up for 12 more years of Jameis Winston. He'll be 45 when the day comes. But if they're anything like the first dozen, football fans are in for the ride of their life. For reference, Tom Brady played 23, so I'm not saying Winston would technically best Brady in longevity, but I'm not not saying it.
He’s probably not getting another long-term starter shot, and that’s fine. Winston has carved out the perfect chaos-agent backup role. He'll always be an intriguing option for spot-start duty, but it's fair to assume that's all he'll be moving forward. As long as he’s in the league, the role almost doesn’t matter.
Winston started two games for an injured Jaxson Dart this past season, posting modest numbers: 567 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. However, there's a case to be made he deserves the award for most electric play arguably ever, with his first career reception that resulted in a touchdown against the Detroit Lions.
He jokingly said after the game that he'd play tight end if he had to, which makes me want to turn on Madden and change his position.
Jameis Winston is a national treasure, and knowing his time will eventually end as an NFL quarterback is truly sad. If it were up to me, he wouldn't retire for a million years. However, if it’s up to Winnie, that’s not happening anytime soon. Plus, he’ll almost certainly get picked up by a network to be on television, so there’s really no losing as long as he’s on TV on Sundays being himself.
