Odell Beckham Jr.’s presence could matter more than expected for Malik Nabers

Odell Beckham Jr. is probably the best possible mentor for Malik Nabers to have right now.

Ever since the New York Giants signed Odell Beckham Jr., the team has been surrounded with positivity. OBJ has a great relationship with Jaxson Dart and several other teammates, who were seen with him at Brian Burns’ Celebrity Softball game, and he works well with John Harbaugh, as they did in Baltimore.

The Odell signing is a win for everyone, and after hearing the veteran receiver talk this week after practice, this Giants homecoming feels like more than just a return for him. It’s about his son getting the chance to watch him play and his effort to finish unfinished business with the franchise he never wanted to leave in the first place.

What stood out in Beckham Jr.'s comments after practice was what he hopes to bring to the G-Men and the role he can play for Malik Nabers.

Malik Nabers has no reason to rush back from injury with OBJ by his side

Odell told the media on Wednesday after practice that he feels he can be a great resource for Nabers, who is recovering from a season-ending ACL injury last season and has no timetable for his return after two surgeries this offseason.

OBJ spoke about knowing how it feels to be in Nabers’ shoes, especially since both were first-round picks out of LSU and came to New York with high expectations to fulfill the team’s WR1 role.

Odell knows what it’s like to come out of that school to the Giants and navigate this market with the pressure of the fans and the media. If there’s anyone who can relate to Leek’s situation, it’s OBJ, especially when it comes to his injury.

“Through this process, which has been a tough process, I think he’s going to come out on the other end better, and I can’t wait to see him back on the field,” Odell said.

Beckham Jr. has had a long career, and if there’s anyone who knows what it’s like to deal with an injury similar to Nabers, it’s him. The 33-year-old suffered multiple ACL tears, including in 2020 and 2022 during the Super Bowl while playing for the Los Angeles Rams.

If you’ve seen the clips of Odell lately, they make you believe that, despite his injury history, he’s still got it, and there’s no need for Nabers to rush back, knowing the G-Men have plenty of depth at wide receiver. Most fans would agree they’d rather Leek take his time than risk him re-injuring himself.

OBJ knows that his roster spot is not guaranteed, but as long as he continues to look the way he has in practice and serves as a mentor to Nabers and a leader in the Giants’ locker room, we can expect to see him on Sundays.
