One of the worst parts of training camp and the NFL preseason is the injury risk, which can cost a player his job. That was the case for Giants running back Dante “Turbo” Miller, who suffered a groin injury last Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings.
The #Giants waived RB Dante Miller after he suffered a groin injury the other day. The team worked out veteran Najee Harris, as @AdamSchefter reported earlier. No decision there yet.

Turbo signed with the Giants in 2024 as an undrafted free agent after a miscommunication at South Carolina that left him without an extra year of eligibility and ineligible for the NFL Draft. Although the 27-year-old did not play much with Big Blue and mainly served on the practice squad, he appeared in two games in 2024, mostly on special teams, and recorded one tackle.
While Turbo wasn’t a lock to make the 53-man roster, it’s never easy to see a player waived because of injury, but the G-Men signed a replacement who has fans intrigued.
Giants wasted no time replacing Turbo Miller with Najee Harris
The Giants quickly found a replacement for Turbo, signing veteran running back Najee Harris to a one-year deal after he visited with the team on Monday.
The 28-year-old lands in New York after a season under John Harbaugh’s brother, Jim, with the Los Angeles Chargers, which was unfortunately cut short due to an Achilles tear.
Harris spent his first four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, earning Pro Bowl honors as a rookie in 2021, before signing a one-year deal with the Chargers last offseason.
Now, Najee is fully healthy and will compete for a role in a loaded Giants’ backfield consisting of Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Devin Singletary.
Many believed this signing might’ve had to do with Tracy’s missed block on Vikings’ safety Jay Ward last Saturday, which resulted in a sack on Jaxson Dart and sent him to the blue medical tent for evaluation. Big Blue fans are unfortunately a little too familiar with that after last season.
ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that the team signing Harris was not related to Tracy’s missed block, which he fully took responsibility for, and that this signing was simply in response to Miller’s injury.
Luckily, Turbo is still young enough to stick around the league and may have the chance to land on his feet elsewhere. His next step will almost depend entirely on whether another team claims him off waivers. If he clears, he can revert to the Giants’ injured reserve while he recovers.
