Every season, there are always a few under-the-radar players who make their case for a team’s final 53-man roster for the upcoming season. The New York Giants have had several of them over the years, and there are a few making their case again this year.
Some are looking to be this year’s Elijah Chatman, an undrafted player who impressed so much in preseason and training camp that he made the final roster. Beaux Collins and Montrell Washington have both stood out. Then there’s Dante “Turbo” Miller, who fans saw last season and again early in this preseason.
Although Miller spent the majority of the 2024 season on the practice squad and was activated for just two regular-season games, Turbo is getting more of a second chance this summer. With rookie running back Cam Skattebo sidelined by a hamstring injury, Miller has seen more playing time, even over veteran Devin Singletary, and has made the most of his opportunities at both running back and on special teams. That versatility is exactly how Bryce Ford-Wheaton made his case last year to stick on the roster.
Dante Miller is making it nearly impossible for the Giants to cut him
Given the nickname “Turbo” because of his blistering speed, Miller has stood out on special teams and may have the edge in next week’s final cuts. Special teams coach Michael Ghobrial praised the traits and abilities Miller showed throughout the summer, and that impact could be what secures his spot.
STC Michael Ghobrial said RB Dante “Turbo” Miller lives up to his nickname as a gunner. His deliberate practice habits show up in the game. He’s a willing and physical tackler.

If you look at the numbers so far, Miller has been one of the most impressive players on offense. He put up over 100 total yards (22 rushing, 80 receiving) in the first preseason win against the Buffalo Bills and followed that with 82 total yards (39 rushing, 43 receiving) in the second win over the New York Jets. Singletary, on the other hand, has managed just nine total yards in two games: three against Buffalo and six against the Jets.
While the veteran could stick because of his experience and contract, or possibly be moved via release or trade, Miller may have the edge thanks to his impact on special teams, something the other running backs don’t bring.
Once the regular season starts, Tracy and Skattebo will likely get the bulk of the carries. Skattebo did fall behind while dealing with the hamstring injury, but Miller stayed healthy and kept making his case. Even if he doesn’t play a major role in the offense, his work as a gunner on special teams could be the factor that lands him on the 53-man roster for 2025.
Turbo will get one last chance to impress in the preseason finale against the New England Patriots before the G-Men make their roster decisions. Whether he gets a shot to contribute on offense is still uncertain, but his value on special teams may be what secures his spot and his chance to play every week.
