The New York Giants wasted no time hitting the waiver wire to address one of the only true glaring roster holes after a pretty savage roster-cutting day. Overall, the team cut 37 players on Tuesday in one of the most emotionally-charged days of the season. It's never nice telling a guy who worked all camp for a spot they couldn't cut it, but so life goes.
There were a few surprises, with Elijah Chatman's release being the biggest. The G-Men parting ways with Dante "Turbo" Miller and Montrell Washington was also kinda surprising, but the biggest surprise came from another move, or lack thereof. See, when the team officially announced its final roster, there were only three safeties on the depth chart. It was definitely odd, but now fans know why.
According to Giants insider Art Stapleton, Big Blue is addressing its lack of safety depth via the waiver wire, picking up former Baltimore Ravens safety, Beau Brade. With the third-worst record in the league last season, New York was awarded third claim in waiver priority.

Giants waste no time claiming former Ravens safety Beau Brade off waivers
Turns out, all Big Blue Nation had to do was wait a few hours for the method to pair with Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll's madness.
The front office chose to part ways with Makari Paige and Raheem Layne, both of whom were jockeying for that fourth and final roster spot behind Jevón Holland, Tyler Nubin, and Dane Belton. Paige looked good during camp and preseason. It felt like the undrafted Michigan Man had a legitimate shot to make the roster. Layne had a late groin injury that all but sunk his chances.
While Paige's size (6-foot-4, 208 pounds) presented the G-Men with an intriguing option, ultimately the team turned to the Baltimore outcast and Maryland native.
Brade won't offer Big Blue much in the pass-defense department early on, but he does have some special teams upside. The 23-year-old doesn't offer the same size Paige does (6-foot, 210 pounds), but clearly Dabs preferred the way he plays over anyone rostered in East Rutherford.
As for why Brade was available, the former Ravens DB just got squeezed out of Baltimore. Kyle Hamilton, Malaki Starks, Sanoussi Kane, and Reuben Lowery just got in the way, leaving him ripe for the taking.
With Brade's claim, the G-Men now must make room for him on their new 54-man roster. They'll need to cut someone from their current roster, and it looks pretty likely that their seven-man cornerback room could be the unit to look at.
With Brade in tow, the safety room looks complete... as does the rest of the Giants' 53-man. Now it's just waiting to see how the new and improved team performs in Week 1 against the Commanders.
