Giants’ worst-case coaching rumor is no longer as far-fetched as it should be

Oh god, please no.

The New York Giants are right in the thick of making one of their most important decisions in franchise history, and Joe Schoen isn't taking it lightly. The coaching search has seen the Giants cast a wide net after their expected interview list surfaced, but the presence of a few names has fans frustrated with ownership.

There's been a lot of cause for optimism with the names revealed, but one of the nightmare scenarios comes in the form of is fan favorite Antonio Pierce, who was a member of the Super Bowl-winning team back in 2007. But his coaching credentials don't quite measure up to other candidates just yet.

The 47-year-old's stint coaching the Raiders ended in disaster after just one season, yet he did an admirable job in his time as interim head coach. While some believe he deserved more time in Las Vegas, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize he's not the most qualified candidate for Big Blue.

Antonio Pierce being considered for the Giants' head coaching vacancy is a complete joke

The main problem with the Giants is the fact their organizational ineptitude starts at the top. They have the wrong people hiring the wrong people, which is why the team has been among the biggest train wrecks in football these last few years. And John Mara won't be selling the team or ending the nepotism in the regime anytime soon.

Because of his time in blue and white, Pierce has more than earned an interview, but he doesn't deserve another head coaching opportunity. Hopefully ownership is aware of that, but given the fact they love coaches with Giants ties, there is a small chance that he's being legitimately considered.

With that said, there's no telling how much of a disaster this search will turn out to be if people like Pierce and Lou Anarumo are receiving interviews. Keeping your options open is a good thing, but even interviewing a coach with a 9-17 coaching record is a move that no fanbase would support.

However, this is more than likely a courtesy interview to see if he could join the new coach's staff (likely as the DC) because of his history as a Giants fan favorite. Because if this were anything else, the fanbase would be circling MetLife Stadium with pitchforks and calling for Schoen's job tomorrow.

Pierce is an objectively solid football coach, but that doesn't mean he's qualified enough to be the next leading man for the New York Football Giants. This would be a move where the G-Men would be right back in the same situation this time next year despite being an attractive opening.
