Couldn't have asked for a better start.

Who has two thumbs and is technically undefeated against the Dallas Cowboys as a starting quarterback? Jaxson Dart. While the NFL world waits for the full schedule release on Thursday evening, we already know one thing: the New York Giants will play host to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football to open the 2026 season.

It’s a familiar matchup, but with John Harbaugh now at the helm and Dart entering his second year, the energy in East Rutherford is different.

For a while, it felt like the G-Men were starting every season down 0-2 before a snap was even played. The Cowboys have had their number, especially in home openers -- most notably that 40-0 disaster in 2023. But this feels like a different chapter.

Dart finished his rookie campaign by leading a 34-17 win over these very Cowboys in the season finale, and that momentum is exactly what this team needs to carry into September.

Giants get Cowboys in Week 1 NFC East showdown

Dallas fans will be too quick to point out that the Cowboys sat Dak Prescott at halftime, but they were already down 16-10. But please tell me how Prescott playing defense would have helped them at all in the second half. New York hung up another 18 in the final 30 minutes to end the season on a rare high note that has somewhat set the tone for a more positive outlook for the '26 season.

The dynamic in the NFC East is changing. While some analysts weren't overly impressed with Dart, they might be overlooking the grit it took to end Dak's ridiculous 14-game winning streak over the G-Men.

Dart accounted for 24 total touchdowns in just 12 starts last season, proving he has the it factor and then some.

Facing Dallas in Week 1 just feels right. The two division rivals have a deep history of playing one another right out of the gate -- this will be the eighth time since 2012 that the two NFC East foes have kicked off their season against one another.

With Harbaugh bringing a winning pedigree from Baltimore and a defense built on an elite pass-rush, the G-Men finally aren’t underdogs in their own building anymore. Dart just needs to play smart and make the plays that are there, the same way he did against the Cowboys the first time. I don't know about you, but give me the guy who's undefeated any day... even if it's only been one game.
