No-brainer win-now Giants trade package still isn't enough to save Brian Daboll

The New York Giants appear to have stumbled backward into a franchise quarterback, thanks to the performance of Jaxson Dart, but Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen are still very much on the hot seat, thanks to the team's poor record. This could throw a wrench in what they had planned leading up to the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline.

With Daboll and Schoen on the verge of losing their jobs following a 2-6 start, the idea of being a buyer in free agency that infuses the receiver-deficient Giants with extra pass-catching talent might appeal to this power structure. Such a move could lead to Jakobi Meyers putting on that classic blue helmet.

Meyers has been very open and public about his desire to be traded away from the Las Vegas Raiders, and the Giants' lack of wide receiver talent could lead to them making this deal and handing him an extension that locks him in as Dart's No. 2 wide receiver for the next handful of seasons.

While this move would not be completely without merit from a football perspective, this move is not going to be enough to save Dabll and Schoen, irrespective of what they think.

The Giants trading for Jakobi Meyers won't be enough to save Brian Daboll

Even if the Giants are able to pull off this trade, which could give Dart a fairly solid skill position group heading into the 2026 season, Daboll and Schoen might not be around to see what that offense looks like. With five wins in two years, isn't such skepticism warranted?

The only case Daboll has for remaining employed, barring a crazy hot streak, is selling this front office on the notion that he is the right guy to get the most out of Dart. If that pitch falls flat, the Mara family needs only to look at his win-loss record and make the obvious move.

However, if the Giants do end up with Meyers, they would land someone who could be the No. 1 wide receiver for the remainder of the season while serving as a tremendous stylistic compliment to Malik Nabers when he returns to full health. Daboll's eventual replacement will likely have a field day with those two.

The Giants have seemingly hit on Dart, which facilitates the need to surround him with talent. Even if he won't be enough to keep the Daboll regime in power, trading for Meyers should be at the top of New York's to-do list leading up to the deadline.
