The New York Giants have been starving for a franchise quarterback since the Eli Manning days. So when they traded back into the first round of the 2025 Draft to select Ole Miss star Jaxson Dart 25th overall, the hope was their labored search would finally end.

Fast forward eight weeks and five starts, and the 22-year-old has been exactly what they'd hoped for and more. He's literally doing things the league has never seen before, and that is objectively awesome. No. 6 is quietly putting together the most efficient start to a career in league history. Senior NFL researcher Tony Holzman-Escareno paints quite the picture:

It's okay. Take a minute to look those numbers over a second time to make sure you can fully appreciate what the former Rebel is doing under center. For reference, the Super Bowl era is 1967-on, meaning no other quarterback of the past 59 years has come out of the gates as gassed-up as Dart. And that's reason to buy all the way in.

Jaxson Dart’s first five starts put him in a league of his own

His numbers might not jump off the page, but with the added context, they carry plenty of weight: 984 passing yards, eight touchdowns, three interceptions, 195 rushing yards, four rushing scores, and just one fumble lost.

When you put it all together, you get one of the most promising starts for any player to step foot on the gridiron.

What makes his rise even more impressive is that he’s been without star wideout Malik Nabers, who’s out for the season with a torn ACL. His top pass-catchers in relief are Wan’Dale Robinson, Theo Johnson, Daniel Bellinger, and Cam Skattebo, who’s likely joining Nabers after suffering a dislocated ankle in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Those aren’t exactly household names. If the Giants are serious about developing their prized franchise cornerstone, they’d be wise to get him some help. Dart has answered the call so far, but the last thing they should do is ask him to do too much too early.

Not to get greedy here, but imagine how much better he could be with a player who could get open consistently, catch contested passes, and win 50-50 balls. Chills.

Regardless, it’s impossible not to get excited by the early returns. Being the only quarterback in the Super Bowl era to hit those marks is genuinely special. No one’s booking tickets to Canton just yet, but he’s off to a better start than literally anyone — and better than anyone expected.
