The New York Giants' 2025 season didn't officially end when rookie running back Cam Skattebo suffered a season-ending dislocated ankle in Week 8, but for all intents and purposes, it was the unofficial death blow.
In the eight games before his injury, Skattebo had me emotionally overinvesting in a Giants season that had no business doing that. The fourth-rounder out of Arizona State was a weekly highlight reel who brought grit and toughness back to Giants football. He instantly became a fan favorite for his is-he-okay quirks and unlimited, high-energy personality.
If you were anything like me and found yourself fully addicted to the Skattebo experience, it turns out Giants head coach John Harbaugh was right there with us. According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, Harbaugh recently brought in Skatt’s former ASU offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo to interview for the Giants’ vacant quarterbacks coach job:

I'm not freaking out, you are. Okay, I lied... I'm freaking out.
John Harbaugh is officially all in on the Cam Skattebo experience
First things first, yes, Arroyo was Skattebo’s OC during his fifth-place Heisman finish in 2024. That season saw the human-sized fire hydrant rip off 1,711 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns, while casually tacking on another 605 yards and three scores through the air. You know, just your casual 2,300-scrimmage yard, 24-TD out-of-nowhere season.
But the 46-year-old’s connection to Big Blue’s resident Tasmanian Devil isn’t the only familiarity he’d have in New York.
While Arroyo veers off the Harbaugh coaching tree, he doesn't fall far from it. The new HC of the Giants hasn't exactly hidden the fact that if you've worked with him in the past in Baltimore, you're already a frontrunner for seemingly every open position on his staff -- it's not what you know, it's who you know.

Even though ASU's OC doesn't have direct coaching experience under Harbs, he has worked with Big Blue's new running backs coach, Willie Taggart, from their time together at Oregon. Arroyo casually played a major role in developing Chargers star QB Justin Herbert, which I guess is kind of awesome for Jaxson Dart.
Additionally, Arroyo was on Todd Monken's staff at Southern Miss back in 2013. Monken was Harby's OC in Baltimore from 2023 to 2025 and looked like a lock to come with him to New York, before Cleveland actually ruined all the fun by handing him a head coaching gig.
While he's no Monken, Matt Nagy is Big Blue's OC consolation prize. He's an experienced play-caller who's also worked with a pretty good quarterback -- Patrick Mahomes, ever heard of him -- which bodes well for Dart's development. Add in the Skattebo influence creeping into the staff, and suddenly this offense doesn’t feel nearly as soulless as it has for the past decade.
