NY Giants CB getting blasted for giving up mid-play against the Eagles

This is just unacceptable.

It's hard to pick up what exactly is the main reason the New York Giants are consistently getting taken down by the Eagles, especially at home. In Week 7, Philly traveled to East Rutherford and left with a 28-3 win. Nothing went right for the G-Men in this one.

After allowing seven sacks, laboring to get Daniel Jones close to 100 yards passing, and being unable to stop Saquon Barkley in what was one of the best games of his career, the Giants' once mighty defense struggled late too. Deonte Banks, who has come under fire, put forth a pathetic showing worthy of a benching in the second half on one play in particular.

With Jalen Hurts facing a third down up 21-3, the Eagles quarterback was able to slip out of the tackle of a blitzing Matthew Adams and scamper for a first down. Part of the reason he reeled off such a big gain was Banks, who seemingly stopped running and trying to make a tackle.

The Giants ended up losing in a game that saw Jones get banished to the bench in favor of Drew Lock. While Banks isn't the main reason things went so wrong, this rep will likely earn him a serious tongue-lashing in the film room. Fans are furious with him too:

Deonte Banks showed horrible effort as Eagles crushed Giants at home

This wasn't the end of Banks' poor effort. The Eagles scored on this drive thanks to a Hurts touchdown run. On multiple key conversions, Banks didn't throw his body into the mix, doing no more than holding his fist in the air. This is a terrible look for a team that has a coach firmly on the hot seat.

Banks was picked with the expectation that he could be a high-end starter, but his play this year in both coverage and run support has wavered between average and below average. Showing a lack of fire like this is a big problem, as it shows the coaching staff is not motivating their players enough to give it their all for 60 minutes.

The last two games have sucked all the air out of the Giants' balloon. Banks' effort was so putrid that it has become emblematic of the last two years of New York football.
