The New York Giants are 2-8 and have lost five games in a row. The latest loss was an overtime defeat to the lowly Carolina Panthers in Munich, Germany. The Giants might have found a way to tie it up in the final seconds and send the game to overtime but it didn't matter. They continued to get in their own way and coughed up a winnable game.
With a 2-8 record and now sitting with the worst record in the league (at least until some of the later Sunday games wrap up), the Giants need to officially cut bait with Brian Daboll and move on. The only reason Daboll is likely still being kept as the Giants head coach is because he helped lead the team to a playoff appearance in his first year in 2022. Daboll won Coach of the Year in 2022 for getting the Giants to a 9-7 record and winning a playoff game.
Since then, however, the Giants have been a complete and total joke. They went 6-11 in 2023 and this year have just two wins. Sure, Daboll has had to deal with having Daniel Jones as his quarterback but he likely played some part in ensuring Jones got paid and that has not been the right decision for the organization. We all know that now (and a lot of us knew it then).
Giants need to move on from Brian Daboll after embarrassing loss to Panthers
Some might look at this Giants loss and point the blame at Tyrone Tracy Jr. for fumbling on the Giants' first snap of overtime but Tracy had a good game aside from that. The rest of the offense can't say the same, tallying just 17 points. That falls on the head coach and this has become a theme for the Giants, meaning it's always been on Daboll.
If the season ended this very moment (and of course we still have a lot of games to take place on Sunday), the Giants would hold the number one pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. It's not uncommon for teams to reset when they have the top pick in the draft so that the new head coach can have the players he wants to have when he takes over.
With the Giants now entering their bye week, this feels like the best time to move on from Daboll and to officially hit the reset button. That being said, the Giants might decide to let him finish out the year for whatever reason. We'll have to see what ends up happening.
