To Odell Beckham Jr.’s credit, his potential reunion with the New York Giants is almost enough to overpower the NFL’s schedule release.
The last few months have featured continued speculation about Beckham, who played for the Giants from 2014–18, returning for a second — and, given his age, likely final — stint in New York.
Beckham and Giants receiver Malik Nabers have both publicly advocated for such a move, and Giants coach John Harbaugh — who coached Beckham in Baltimore — also sounds open to the idea.
In a notebook published Thursday, The Athletic’s Dan Duggan noted that Beckham remains unsigned ahead of next week’s organized team activities despite Nabers and Darius Slayton’s ongoing rehab.
Nabers had knee surgery last October and recently had a second surgery to remove scar tissue. Slayton reportedly had offseason surgery to repair a core muscle injury.
“Beckham, at this stage of his career, can’t be expected to replace Nabers or even Slayton,” Duggan wrote. “But if those receivers’ recoveries take longer than expected, then the need for Beckham could be greater. Otherwise,” he continued, “it doesn’t seem as if a reunion is likely.”
Harbaugh and Beckham were spotted together at the league meetings in March. When speaking with reporters last week, Harbaugh reiterated that he has had multiple conversations with Beckham.
Beckham served a suspension last year following a positive drug test, and he failed to even earn a practice squad opportunity upon his November reinstatement.
There have been no credible rumors regarding Beckham signing elsewhere. He played for Harbaugh on the Ravens in 2023 and spent part of 2024 with the Dolphins.
Injuries and ineffectiveness have kept Beckham from a 1,000-yard campaign since 2019, his first season with the Browns. He had four 1,000-yard seasons in his five years with the Giants.
Beckham has 575 catches, 7,987 yards, and 59 touchdowns over 10 seasons with five teams. He trails only Amani Toomer on the Giants’ all-time receiving yards list.
With or without Beckham, the Giants will open the 2026 season at home against the Cowboys on Sunday, Sept. 13.
