One overlooked Ravens player makes way too much sense for John Harbaugh’s Giants

The New York Giants knocked their head coach hire out of the park as they lured in John Harbaugh after 18 years leading the Baltimore Ravens.

The 63-year-old will need to spend a lot of time and money revamping a Giants team that’s struggled to find any consistent success in over a decade. He’s already started rounding out his coaching staff in his image, hiring former Ravens assistant head coach and running backs coach Willie Taggart, and former defensive line coach Dennis Johnson.

While Harbaugh undertakes the seemingly impossible task of dragging the G-Men back into the world of relevance, don’t be surprised if he continues his Ravens way in North Jersey by looking for former Baltimore players who can set him up for instant success in what will be a widely scrutinized debut season.

With that, it’s time to grab a pint and pour one out... for Jamie Gillan’s job security. Because if Jordan Stout hits the open market, Harbaugh and Co. shouldn’t be afraid to make the 27-year-old a priority signing.

Spare me the "The only Ravens player I want is Tyler Linderbaum" spiel or the "Stout had one good season" narrative. Linderbaum is awesome, and the best individual player at his position, which also makes him expensive, and the G-Men aren't necessarily rolling in cap space, with a current estimated $1.8 million in open room.

As for the 2022 fourth-round pick coming off his first Pro Bowl and All-Pro season, do you realize how awful the Giants' special teams unit has been over the past couple of seasons?

If 2025 showed Giants fans anything, it's that trusting Gillan anymore is a recipe for disaster. It's time for a clean break for both parties. Aside from weekly muffed punts not passing the eye test, the numbers also back up his struggles.

Pro Football Focus ranked the Scottish Hammer 28th among 32 punters last season with a 57.0 overall grade. His kickoff grade? 12th out of 13 with a brutal 6.4. Among 35 punters, his 44.5 yards per punt ranked 33rd, and his 38.0 net yards per punt ranked 30th. It’s time for a change.

Harbs is a special teams guy through and through, so Gillan’s days in New York might be numbered. That opens the door for a perfect opportunity -- go out to the Baltimore pub and grab a Jordan Stout.
