PFF might know something about the Giants that no one else does

What do they know that we don't?

With the 2025 NFL Draft and rookie minicamp completed, Big Blue Nation should have a decent idea of what the roster for the New York Giants will look like for the upcoming 2025 season. But there’s always space for wiggle room for more moves to be made... especially at wide receiver.

Did Pro Football Focus accidentally spoil a potential roster move for the Giants? If you check out Davis’ page on the PFF website, it shows him as a member of the G-Men.

Davis was recently released after just one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, prompting speculation about his future—and whether a reunion with Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll could be in the cards. Adam Bernstein talked about the possibility of New York bringing in Davis to reunite with Schoen and Daboll just after his release from Jacksonville happened.

So far, Davis has only met with the San Francisco 49ers on a free agent visit, but no deal was reached between the two sides. There have been unconfirmed rumors of Davis visiting the Giants, though nothing substantial has emerged to back them up. Social media even saw a few fake reports claiming the Giants had already signed him.

Would that lead to PFF updating Davis’s status on their site? Or did they receive some inside info from the Giants that no one else has? Whether it was a mistake or just a strange coincidence, signing Davis is a roster move that would make sense for the Giants.

The Giants typically bring in a veteran wide receiver to compete with the younger players on the roster—just as they did with Allen Robinson last year before cutting him at the end of training camp. There were thoughts that the Giants could consider veteran Keenan Allen, especially after Alex Kay from Bleacher Report named him a top fit for New York. For now, Allen remains a free agent, with no clear indication of where his interests lie.

Age-wise, Davis would be the more ideal fit, as he just turned 26 and is still in the prime years of his career, whereas Allen is 33 and may be nearing the end of his playing days.

Money-wise, it’s hard to say what Davis would want, especially after being released just one year into a three-year, $39 million deal. He landed on injured reserve in 2024 with a torn meniscus, so if he’s looking to prove he can still play, he might be open to a one-year ‘prove it’ deal with a team like the Giants. As of now, the Giants are listed with $1.13 million in salary cap space, according to Over the Cap, and still need to sign their 2025 NFL Draft class. That said, they could create room if needed—several contracts could be restructured to open up space.

The one potential thing for Davis though, is the possibility of familiarity and scheme wise, as Davis had 13 total touchdowns in the first two seasons he was with Buffalo when Daboll was the offensive coordinator there. If the Giants are trying to build the offense and team similar to what we’ve seen in Buffalo, then Davis might be more inclined to sign with the Giants and compete for a spot in their wide receiver room.

Whether a signing happens or not remains to be seen, but it’s definitely something worth keeping an eye on.
