The New York Giants have had a productive offseason—significantly improving their roster between free agency and the NFL Draft. However, there's still more that has to be done before the 2025 season starts.

The G-Men improved their defense with several additions, including Paulson Adebo, Jevon Holland, and Abdul Carter. With a much-improved secondary and arguably the best front seven in the league, New York's defense should make a lot of noise next season.

On the other hand, the Giants' offense will be interesting to watch next year. It was one of the worst in the league last season, and they're running its back with a similar group. While they addressed the quarterback room with the additions of Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Jaxson Dart, the rest of the offense will look exactly the same as last season.

Big Blue did add to their offensive line depth and drafted Cam Skattebo to upgrade their running back room, but many expected the team to pursue a wide receiver at some point during free agency.

Stefon Diggs was a name linked to the Giants before signing with the New England Patriots. But even so, the G-Men decided to go in a different direction and retain Darius Slayton instead.

The wide receiver room will again consist of Malik Nabers, Wan'Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton, and Jalin Hyatt. General manager Joe Schoen could still have another move up his sleeve with veteran wideouts, such as Keenan Allen and Amari Cooper, who are both still available. But there's another, more interesting name that's just emerged.

Joe Schoen and the Giants should sign Gabe Davis in free agency

The Giants should pursue veteran wideout Gabe Davis, who the Jacksonville Jaguars cut on Wednesday to get out of his $39 million contract. The move comes after the Jaguars selected Travis Hunter with the second overall pick, who may have an even better opportunity to play receiver with Davis' departure.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen have a relationship with Davis, as they were in Buffalo when the Bills drafted him in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Schoen, the Bills' assistant general manager at the time, has spoken highly of Davis even after joining the Giants organization in 2022. He has often referred to him when discussing finding talent in the NFL Draft and success stories at the professional level.

"With Gabe, it started with his makeup. He was off the charts with the way he learned, the ability to move him around, his work ethic — checked all those boxes — and he was a very productive receiver at Central Florida," Schoen told the New York media in 2023.

So why not take a chance on the recently released receiver?

Davis is coming off a down year. He failed to do much of anything before suffering a knee injury. The veteran only appeared in 10 games, totaling 20 catches for 239 yards and two touchdowns.

He will be an affordable option for whichever team decides to give him a chance next season, and the Giants have nothing to lose.

With Nabers locked in as the clear WR1 and Robinson and Slayton solid WR2 and WR3 options, the Giants could take a swing on Davis—especially with the uncertainty around Hyatt. Davis has proven he can produce at this level and has familiarity with both Schoen and Daboll.
