Awful NY Giants offense actually helped Vikings DT land a 2-year extension

Of course this happened two days after the Vikings dominated.

You can't even make this stuff up. It seems like everyone is smiling after the NY Giants were dominated by the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1. Oh, but trust us, no one in New York or New Jersey is happy, it's all the Big Blue haters who are celebrating. As it turns out, a Vikings defensive tackle is on top of the world after the win too.

Just two days after Minnesota traveled to East Rutherford and demolished the Giants, veteran Harrison Phillips was given a two-year, $19 million extension from the front office. So, you mean to tell us that NY's poor offensive play, which led to a dominant Vikings' showing, helped No. 97 get his payday? It sure looks that way:

Harrison Phillips landed a $19 million extension after a great game vs. Giants

It wasn't just Week 1 that helped Phillips get paid, but it sure helped his cause. At MetLife Stadium going up against the Giants offensive line, the DT posted one sack, one tackle for loss and a quarterback hit on Daniel Jones. Not bad for a day at the office. Now, Phillips has $13 million in guaranteed money coming his way.

Everything went right for the Vikings against Big Blue, as they truly did look way sharper on both sides of the ball. Brian Daboll said shortly after the final whistle that New York got outplayed, but he also added that he and his staff need to do a better job.

That's certainly the case, as Daboll's play-calling was rough. However, Jones had a nightmare day, as did the pass-rush led by Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux. The effort all-around was unacceptable, which led to team legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor calling out the team as a whole.

Things are already looking rocky for the Giants one week into the new campaign. It could prove to be another long season for New York in terms of opposing players looking like superstars going up against them. It's already led to Phillips getting his handsome raise, but we certainly hope he's the last one to take advantage of a disappointing Giants performance.
