Daniel Jones proves he can't start another NY Giants game after Vikings loss
We wanted to give NY Giants quarterback Daniel Jones a chance. Things were looking good for him, especially after general manager Joe Schoen improved the offensive line and used the No. 6 overall pick on star wide receiver Malik Nabers. Surely Jones was going to take a step forward and finally put things together in his sixth campaign.
Instead, Jones has people feeling like the season is already over on Sept. 8 following the embarrassing loss to the Vikings at MetLife Stadium. There's no other way to put it: the former No. 6 overall pick played terribly. He was given enough time to scan the field, but didn't let it rip. He missed usual throws that veteran QBs make in their sleep. His pick-six was a joke. What can be said to defend him?
Daniel Jones is understandably getting bashed for his terrible game vs. Vikings
That interception from Jones is the kind of mistake people in New Jersey and New York have gotten used to seeing from him in recent years. What in the world was he thinking in throwing that ball? After that play, fans started making their way towards the exits.
This was supposed to be a memorable day for the Giants, as this game officially kicked off the 100th year for the organization. The team wore their Century Red jerseys and a new logo was revealed at midfield, which everyone loved.
The hype was real for the squad and there was finally some excitement. All of that excitement ended shortly after the Giants offense took the field. Fans were booing after two plays. The Giants defense stepped up early, but NY couldn't do anything on the other side of the ball.
It starts with Jones, who finished with 181 passing yards, two interceptions and no TDs. You can't blame the Brian Daboll play-calling. Was it perfect? Not a chance, but his quarterback did him zero favors. Just like 2023, nothing went right for Jones with the ball in his hands. It got to the point that you could hear chants from the stands calling for Drew Lock.
This isn't what anyone envisioned. At the same time, how much more time can New York afford to give its quarterback? They've invested in Jones and improved things around him. If he can't make simple throws or look like someone in Year 6 in the league, then a change will need to be made. Will it be Lock or Tommy DeVito? Who knows, but Jones can't be the guy moving forward.
