It's Week 1 of the NFL and it's not going well for the New York Giants, thanks in part to a truly miserable game from Daniel Jones. The sixth-year quarterback has not done well in the season opener, throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown and getting sacked four times, as of this writing.
With the Giants down 21 to 6, Jones dropped back to pass and threw the ball into the waiting arms of Andrew Van Ginkel who took it 10 yards into the end zone for the touchdown. That put the Vikings up 28 to 6 and Giants fans had seen enough of their quarterback.
According to Ralph Vacchiano on X, there were "We Want Lock" chants coming from the crowd after Jones threw that abysmal pick-six to Van Ginkel in the third quarter. It's not hard to fault fans for feeling this way considering how bad Jones has been on Sunday (and throughout his career).
Giants fans have seen enough of Daniel Jones
The Giants signed Lock during the offseason to backup Jones. Lock was originally a second-round pick by the Denver Broncos in 2019 (the same year the Giants selected Jones in the first round) and was flipped to Seattle in 2022 in the Russell Wilson trade. He started two games for Seattle last year and did okay in those games, going 1-1.
At this point, the Giants have nothing to lose by throwing Lock onto the field. They're probably not coming back to win this game and they could pull Jones and make it look like a "Oh we pulled him to prevent any injuries" kind of thing (even if that's not totally the case).
Either way, Giants fans are already over the Daniel Jones experiment but unfortunately, it doesn't look like it's going to end anytime soon.
