After the 6-11 season posted by the NY Giants in 2023, it's easy to see why plenty of talking heads aren't expecting much of anything from the G-Men in '24. General manager Joe Schoen knows the pressure is on for him and Brian Daboll to deliver this season. Is a bounce-back year on the way?
Not many analysts are expecting that. Matter of fact, some think the Giants are going to be down in the dumps for quite some time. In a new ESPN piece, experts Dan Graziano, Louis Riddick and Aaron Schatz broke down each team and how things are looking over the next three seasons. They had the Giants ranked at No. 29 - the fourth-worst team in the league. Ouch.
ESPN experts don't have much faith in the NY Giants turning things around
"The front office will remain under the microscope. Even after adding (Malik) Nabers, has it done enough to support Daniel Jones on the perimeter and with the offensive line? Did it mishandle the Saquon Barkley situation this offseason? Long story short, this team's decision-makers might not be around in 2025 if Barkley runs all over the Giants in their two meetings vs. the Eagles this season."ESPN's Louis Riddick
While Graziano mentioned Malik Nabers as being a reason for hope, Riddick still has his concerns over how the offseason went. A major point of discussion this offseason thanks to Hard Knocks has been how things went down with star running back Saquon Barkley.
On one side, people are happy the Giants didn't overpay for Barkley and used resources elsewhere. However, plenty of others are pointing out that letting him walk will prove to be a massive mistake. Riddick believes that if Barkley balls out in '24 and embarrasses the Giants when they face off twice this season, it could lead to Schoen's seat getting red hot.
Keep in mind that no one knows what will happen at QB after this season too, as the belief is Daniel Jones will get released unless he dazzles this fall and winter. From our chair, we have a feeling the Giants will be looking for his replacement next offseason.
Yes, bringing in Nabers, Brian Burns, Jon Runyan Jr. and others has fans excited about Week 1 to get here, but this ESPN panel clearly thinks Schoen hasn't done enough to make this team a contender. We hope that's not the case, but this latest outlook for the G-Men for the next three years isn't going to provide anyone with optimism for the future.
