Is Daniel Jones playing today?

The veteran QB is expected to sit this one out.

The NY Giants are all set to take on the New York Jets on Saturday night in their preseason finale. MetLife Stadium is going to be decently packed, as a beautiful late August night is on the way. However, don't expect Daniel Jones to be throwing the ball all over the field.

With the New York Jets deciding to sit their starters, Brian Daboll will be doing the same, of course including his sixth-year quarterback. There were plenty of Giants fans that were calling for Jones to get some more live action before the season-opener, but it's not going to happen.

Daniel Jones and the Giants starters won't be playing against the Jets

This decision makes a ton of sense. While yes, it would have been nice to see Jones shake off some more rust and develop some chemistry with his wideouts, there's no reason to risk things here for him.

Instead, the Giants and Daboll will use this game as an opportunity to give some of the fringe players a closer look. Cutdown day is coming on Aug. 27, which means the Giants and Daboll have to get things down to 53 players.

Some tough decisions are on the way, which is why the game against the Jets will be so crucial for so many youngsters to try and stand out. Jones has nothing to worry about and neither do the other starters. The next time we see the former first-round pick out on the field will be for the Sept. 8 showdown against the Vikings.

The last time Jones took on Minnesota, it was during the 2022 season in the Wild Card Round. He tossed for 301 yards, with two touchdowns and an additional 78 yards on the ground. It was a historic showing. Hopefully that version of Jones shows up for the Week 1 matchup.
