This was something we all saw coming for months. Following the 2023 season, we knew changes needed to come for the NY Giants offense. Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka nearly left, but once again he stayed put. Despite him landing a promotion, he's also officially losing one of his main job duties.

Leading up to the showdown vs. the Vikings, Brian Daboll confirmed the news that he's taking over the play-calling duties for the 2024 campaign. This was basically common knowledge throughout the offseason, but Daboll never set things in stone. He now has, though, meaning it's his show to run vs. the Vikings and beyond:

Brian Daboll confirmed he's calling the plays on offense this season

Giants fans were fed up with Kafka last season. In multiple games, Daboll reportedly took away play-calling duties from Kafka, including in the Week 2 comeback win over the Arizona Cardinals. Something needed to be shaken up for the Giants and now Daboll is taking charge.

Can we expect more deep shots to be taken downfield? We sure hope so. There's no holding anything back for the G-Men this fall. Daniel Jones is back to full health after tearing his ACL, while the offensive line has a totally new look. It's going to be on the guys up front to keep Jones upright consistently.

Let's also not forget about No. 6 overall pick Malik Nabers, who everyone is hoping can reach 1,000 yards receiving by season's end. Nabers is going to fully open up the offense and Daboll is going to put him in the best position to succeed - it'll be on Jones, however, to put the ball where it needs to be for the speedster.

The pieces have been put in place for the Giants offense to impress. Daboll knows there's pressure on him as head coach to get things turned around. Now that he's calling the plays, we can only hope the offense takes a step forward and gives people a reason to be excited for the future. We'll get our first glimpse of things soon enough against the Vikings.
